Port Descriptions and Sightseeing

Optional excursions are offered by the cruise line at an additional price or you can choose to explore the ports on your own with friends from the group. Your cruise escort will be along to coordinate activities for the group also.

(Some optional excursions are listed below and more are on the website at www.Carnival.com.  Optional excursions are arranged by the cruise line and are subject to change)

Prince William Sound

Located off the coast of Anchorage, this amazing body of water hosts the largest concentration of glaciers in Alaska, including the College Fjord, a series of glaciers named after elite Ivy League schools. Keep one eye on the shoreline while you cruise, as you just may spot otters, seals, bears, eagles and deer.

College Fjord

College Fjord was discovered during an 1899 expedition funded by Ivy League colleges. As a result, all of the glaciers were named after the various schools in their honor. Located in the northwest corner of Prince William Sound, College Fjord is surrounded by over a dozen glaciers, the largest of which is called Harvard Glacier. As you sail along enjoying the serenity and natural beauty of this destination, listen for the splash of glaciers calving into the water below.

Sitka

Sitka, the only major city on Alaska's Baranof Island, has three distinct cultures: Tlingit Indian, Russian and American. You'll find relics of all three cultures throughout the area. With the spectacular natural beauty of Sitka Sound, its fascinating history, unique totem park and Mount Edgecomb - a dormant volcano which rises above the harbor - Sitka is definitely a treasure in the Alaskan wilderness. Optional shore excursions include Sea Otter & Wildlife Quest, Historical Walk & Russian Dancers, Bike & Hike, and sea kayaking among others!

Juneau

Alaska’s capital city was once part of Alaska’s Gold Rush.  Take an afternoon hike through the wild frontiers surrounding the town or enjoy a quick tram ride up Mt. Roberts for spectacular views. Optional shore excursions include flight-seeing over 5 glaciers to a wonderful Alaskan salmon bake at a scenic nature lodge, nature hikes to the Mendenhall Glacier, kayaking, canoeing, and even whale watching.

Skagway

Few one-time boomtowns retain the flavor of the Gold Rush days like Skagway.  This “Gateway to the Klondike” is preserved as a National Historic Park and features one of the oldest narrow-gauge railroads in existence. Step back in time and stroll the wooden boardwalks of this historic town. Optional shore excursions include kayaking, nature hikes, horseback riding, jeep adventures, or flight-seeing by helicopter or float plane.

 Cruise Lynn Canal

Stretching nearly 100 miles through some of Alaska's most breathtaking scenery, Lynn Canal is the longest glacial fjord in North America. As you cruise through this regal landscape you'll be awed by hanging glaciers, towering waterfalls and majestic mountains.

Ketchikan

Alaska’s first city is also known as the “Salmon Capital of the World”.  The city is built on steep hillsides along the water and features a colorful and bustling port. Optional shore excursions offered include tours of the Indian totem pole villages, a jeep and canoe safari, an Alaskan Lumberjack show, a horse drawn trolley, biking, jet boating and even a bear-watching excursion.

Our Ship- Carnival ‘Spirit’

The Carnival Spirit provides the perfect on-board experience as you sail from one picturesque Alaskan port to the next. You’ll have a front row seat as nature unveils each heart-pounding vista in addition to having enormous windows in every social area, so even when you’re not on deck, you can marvel at the panoramic views of glaciers, fjords and flower-carpeted fields.

There’s so much to see and do in beautiful Southwest Alaska. Soak up frontier flavor in Juneau.  Follow the gold rush trail from Skagway onboard the historic White Pass and Yukon Route Railroad.  Catch a feisty salmon or visit a native village in Ketchikan.  From dawn to Midnight Sun, the long days of sunlight make it easy to stay on the go.  And so does our fabulous ship -the Spirit- which is a sanctuary for those who love cruising.  This dazzling vessel boasts a multitude of dining and entertainment options to suit even the most eclectic tastes.
