NEW ENGLAND in the Fall

October 8-16, 2009

Boston…Portland….Shelburne…North  Conway…Burlington…
Montpelier…Concord…Cape Cod…Hyannis…Plymouth

Come travel with us from Massachusetts and Maine to New Hampshire and Vermont getting to know the quaintness of New England—from coastal villages, harbors, and lighthouses to cobblestone streets, covered bridges, and dairy farms. Beautiful views are abundant from rocky coastlines to the fabulous White Mountains. This vacation is for the person who doesn’t need first class accommodations to enjoy the same sights you’d see on a more expensive trip.
We start our vacation in Boston with a sightseeing tour of Boston’s significant landmarks. Follow the Atlantic Coast north to the historic maritime city of Portland, Maine, stopping first in picturesque Kennebunkport. Your sightseeing tour of Portland shows off the beautiful coastal region. An excursion to Boothbay, a delightful coastal village, provides you with time to enjoy its shops, eateries, and picture-perfect harbors.
Next, travel to New Hampshire to see the scenic White Mountains, New England’s greatest range and premier outdoor playground. Drive the renowned Kancamagus Highway and visit Dartmouth College. Then cross the border into Vermont for a visit to a living history museum, a working dairy farm, and a maple museum. In the Cape Cod resort of Hyannis, enjoy time to explore on your own or to take a ferry to Nantucket Island, one of the most historic and scenic places in the world. On your way back to Boston, visit Plymouth and the Plimoth Plantation, where costumed interpreters portray the early 17th-century lifestyle of the Pilgrims. What a way to end this truly charming New England experience.
With ample leisure time to explore on your own with new friends from the group, plus our included sightseeing…you’ll have an unforgettable vacation!

The restaurants are plentiful and varied and the food is delicious. Enjoy the wharfs, with clams and mussels steaming on the dock. Maybe taking an afternoon cruise past summer colonies, lighthouses, small islands, and sunbathing seals would be of interest.

Day 5  Monday, Oct.12                                     Portland–Shelburne–North Conway
We head to the fabulous White Mountains of New Hampshire today. Admire the land of covered bridges, quaint towns, and forests noted for their foliage of contrasting colors in the fall. Originally a booming whaling port, Nantucket has been named a National Historic District and has architecturally changed little since the 17th century. Seaside cottages and old-fashioned lamps still line its streets. Sign on for a guided tour of the island or pick up a picnic lunch and rent a bike, a good way to discover Nantucket on your own. Walk the cobblestone streets and take in the boutique shops or explore the art galleries and museums.
